Principal's Message

Our Vision:

Highland Elementary is a community school where students are first. We are dedicated to providing lifelong learning to all students in a caring, nurturing, & safe environment.

Our Mission:

Highland Elementary, where teachers teach, students learn, & community supports.

Esteemed Parents/Guardians:

Highland Elementary is a place where everyone is someone special. Our school is organized and designed to facilitate and enable teachers to teach and students to learn.

Highland Elementary’s educational goal is to make learning so exciting that students will experience the joy of discovering new ideas and building new skills. The ultimate goal is to nurture our students to develop a love of learning.

Through Highland’s PBIS Plan and The Leader in Me, positive attitudes toward school and lifelong changes in behavior are the behavioral goals for each Highland Leader, our students. Highland students are taught to respect themselves and others. They are given multiple opportunities to develop and demonstrate self-discipline and responsibility.

We at Highland Elementary believe that all students have the right to a quality education. Our firm belief is that all students have the right to attend school, to learn, and to play in a positive, safe, and threat-free environment. The faculty and staff are deeply committed to providing and maintaining a strong discipline policy for students. Respect and responsibility are strong components of our school discipline plan. Highland students are able to articulate school-wide rules, which are consistently and equitably enforced. The school-wide conflict management program ensures a safe and orderly school environment. All faculty and staff members are fair and consistent in the implementation of the simple expectations and guidelines at Highland Elementary.

Synergy assemblies will be held monthly. Positive behavior and performance is recognized through a variety of awards such as Good Citizenship, Accelerated Reader, Honor Roll, Perfect Attendance, and Most Improved. Students, staff, and parents are rewarded for their successes and accomplishments.

Homework is an integral part of school and helps students develop responsibility and good study habits by successfully completing homework assignments. Homework is a link between school and home. Highland parents' support for homework is a critical factor towards building positive attitudes and good study habits. Emphasis is on the quality of the experience rather than the quantity of the work.

Highland Elementary school's climate is synergized. Classroom and school programs reflect the school's strong emphasis on learning. Students and parents express pride in their school. The school community's total support for quality education at Highland Elementary School is impressive. We believe that the school's climate will enable each student to experience personal success and develop into productive lifelong learners and leaders.

Excellence is Possible!

We have work to do, but not impossible work. It is a matter of focus. It is a matter of appropriate criteria. It is a matter of communication. It is a matter of collaboration. It is a matter of will.
